I started a seven minute daily workout program last year. I had always been a slim girl who didn’t need to lose weight. But after having my first child, I was dying to lose the extra pounds that motherhood had put on me.
By that time I had added an extra 15kg and as I headed deep into my late twenties, I knew the belly fat would become even more difficult to shed if I didn’t act fast. So I made a deal with myself; Start working out for seven minutes a day and see what happens.
My husband and I decided that if there was a notable change in my body, I would get a reward; our first postnatal family trip to Northeast Nigeria, to visit extended family and eat strawberries and masas. It suited me in a way because I had never been the type who fancied the idea of hitting a gym or going on a diet. So while I ate my usual everyday food, I started the 7-minute daily workout program with the help of an awesome android HIFIT app which I downloaded from playstore.
MY SEVEN MINUTE DAILY WORKOUT RULES
I had read somewhere that for a workout program to be effective, consistency was key. So I made for myself a “Never miss a day” rule and stuck with it. I began with the post-fajr classic full body workout which was quite intensive. And after some days, I couldn’t resist adding another seven minute abs workout to get sexier, figure flattering abs. (You really don’t have to do this extra). A few things I decided in advance to make this effective was that I would keep working out no matter how hard it hurt, but that I could pause the app and go as slow as I needed to. And most importantly, I would not weigh myself. This is because there is something quite tricky about body weight which has to do with the balance between fat and muscle. Body muscles weigh much more than fat, so while working out and your muscles are toning while burning the fat, you might not notice the difference especially if you’re not so experienced.
PROGRESS MADE SO FAR
It’s been about six months since I started the program and despite the fact that I had noticed significant changes in my belly (You wouldn’t know that I’ve birthed a child) and the fat melt down from my chubby face, I wanted badly to break the rule. I was just curious to know what I had weighed and to my surprise, I had lost 10kg. So If you’re looking to lose weight and feel better and want some advice to keep up the spirit, Here’s what I can sum up from my own experience.
ADVICE FOR AN EFFECTIVE DAILY WORKOUT PROGRAM
JUST DO IT AND DON’T LOOK BACK:
Don’t work out to lose weight. Do it to feel better and healthier; to tone up your muscles and strengthen your bones. Do it to keep fit and extend your life. In the course of all that and unknowing to you, the weight will slowly melt away if you are consistent and motivated.
STICK TO YOUR SCHEDULE:
If you have committed to non-stop seven-minute daily workout, just like I did, then don’t give up on it. Think about this program as something as essential as food. You don’t have a choice. You have to do it because your body depends on it.
DO IT NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO:
In the course of doing this program, I travelled one too many times. The beauty of it is that you can do this wherever you roam; whether you travel for work or for pleasure but never stop doing it. Working out in new environments is on its own a fun experience as it will help to renew your zeal and become a part of you.
TALK TO YOURSELF IF YOU NEED TO:
Yes, you may need to talk to yourself while working out for motivation. Sometimes, a quiet mind works better, but the few times when you need reassurance, give yourself some positive vibes by instructing and reassuring yourself.
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY:
Don’t force anything on yourself. Do whatever your body craves; a walk in the park, a spa treatment and Yes! Even a slice of decadent chocolate cake. You may even find that as the workout progresses, your appetite may change. Just give your body whatever it wants.
So this is it, I started this journey six months ago and here I am, reveling in all its glory. This is one badass workout program that you don’t want to miss out on. Why not give it a try. Download that app and start today. And just in case you’re about to ask whether or not this post is sponsored, I’m glad to tell you that it isn’t in anyway. I’m quite sure the app developers don’t even know I’m writing this. It’s only borne out of the zeal to share what I benefitted from my own experience. So what are you waiting for?
